N866F Seaboard World (ONA) / Seaboard World Douglas DC-8-63F seen lifting off runway 10R at London Heathrow

The Douglas Collection - and the view from Car Park 2
Stretched DC-8-63F N866F in hybrid Overseas National (ONA) livery with very small Seaboard World titles lifts off from runway 10R at London Heathrow.

Not the greatest composition or exposure (considering I was using Kodachrome), but this was only the third film I had put through my newly acquired Zenith E + 300mm lens combo, and I was only a young 17yr old - that's my excuse anyway innit 😆

In the late 1970s at Heathrow there were regular Seaboard World cargo flights, which originally brought in short DC-8 N804SW but also Boeing 747s N701SW & N702SW (see comments section below). At the time, for some reason, Seaboard starting using Northwest Orient Cargo 747s on the flights as well, so they probably needed more capacity. They also leased a number of DC-8s from other operators, as in this case.

N866F c/n 46112 - Douglas DC-8-63F was delivered new to Overseas National Airlines (ONA) in April 1970 and flew with the airline until its demise in 1980, but was constantly leased out to Seaboard World (and on occasion to Loftleidir / Icelandair as TF-FLF and Cargolux) during this period. When Seaboard World was bought by Flying Tigers in Sep 1980, the aircraft became N776FT and flew for another four years before being converted to a 73F. The aircraft was then sold to UPS as N812UP and flew with them until 2010. Since broken up.
