Rural Electrics

            8606 and 4615 sit side-by-side inside the Junee Roundhouse Museum.

Both locomotives are owned by the Sydney Electric Train Society (SETS) and are stored in an operational condition.

8606 was built by Comeng in Granville NSW in 1983 and is an electric locomotive. The last of the class were withdrawn in June 2002, however some were hired back to RailCorp in 2004 for the construction of the Bondi Junction Turnback. 8606 was last used on an enthusiasts tour in October 2005. Only 9 of the 50 built 86 class locomotives remain today.

4615 was mainly constructed by Metropolitan-Vickers in England for the New South Wales Government Railways in 1956. The 46 class was used right up until January 1996, when National Rail decided they would use diesel locomotives over electric locomotives for metropolitan operations. 4615 was last used on an enthusiasts tour in May 2005. Today 5 of the 40 built 46 class locomotives remain.
