Cartmel, Cumbria. The priory gatehouse.

            This gate was the major entrance into the former walled part of the town. Several periods of change and construction can be seen. Note the two carved human heads above the ornate cusped upper window, perhaps the label stops of a missing drip mould. The NT maintain this historic feature.
