This replica house with a veranda gives an idea of what the Romans brought to the native British, the elite that is. For the most part such properties remained out of the reach of the simple 'pleb'. Still, such luxury was to be had when using the public baths, or in part when patronising the market halls, hotels and fast food shops of the day that were to be found in such large tribal centres.

Note this modern replica has been built upon a raised platform, an expediant that was required in order to safeguard the Roman archaeology below.
