Altbach Power Station: An IR Perspective

            Presented here is a color-enhanced infrared photograph of the Altbach Power Station, a significant coal-fired power plant located in Altbach, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Owned and operated by EnBW, this plant has an output capacity of 1,036 MWe. The first power plant on this site was established in 1899. The current structures, with units commissioned in 1985 and 1997, replaced earlier units and feature 250-meter tall chimneys. Notably, Unit 1 received architectural landmark status in November 2021, designed by the German architect Gerhard Feuser. The power station also includes a forced draft cooling tower. EnBW is committed to transitioning from coal to natural gas and eventually to green hydrogen, aiming to achieve climate neutrality by 2035, in alignment with the Paris Agreement of 2015.
