working nightmares - a photo on Flickriver

working nightmares

            i often can't find the words
to explain the night
(the time spent trying not to sleep.)
and when i crawl up onto my pillow ( hovering above myself)
waiting for that second of (peaceful) sleep
she's tearing at the walls (shouting to myself)
 trying to escape the noise from outside her window
(life is just this way...)
"dot dot dot" 
 full of abandonment-
full of -fucking- abandonment.
that is why those places show up everywhere,
and that is why they offer their comfort-
because they know the truth of emptiness.  they know the truth of looking faded.  they know the truth of being left behind for other places, other people, other wishes.  
 I can't start myself on fire when the clouds are upon me.
can you even make out the color of my soul from under all of this dirt?
can you even ensure that the spaces between us are real?
for fucks sake, the time spent trying to shut my eyes has become an endless battle.
So I don't know why... I ever bother to un-make the bed.
