D1015/1012 'Western Champion' at Dore & Totley and Masbrough Station - 5450/64+5468

Its Sunday, the star of the show has passed by at 11:409 and just under 2 hours later, the weekend move of empty 'aggregates wagons', though in actual fact they are MBA type scrap wagons, is seen coming along having taken the turn out behind the train around the corner, to pass through Dore station and onto the Hope Valley line. The working had left the site of the old Coopers Scrapyard, now EMR, having discharged its aggregates material, presumably by crane as there is no hooper emptying facility there, around 17 minutes early and so was due to pass here just after 1pm, it however got held up at the signal around the corner on the main line awaiting a passenger service to come off the Hope Valley line from Manchester, before it could cross over and use the single track around to the double track section around the corner. The planned work by Network Rail to re-double the lines seen here, onto the double track section of the lines along the Hope Valley, the section starting just around the corner to the left between here and Totley East Box, does not appear to be showing any sign of starting so far. Its a very great shame that this line was removed at all in the days when 'rationalisation' was king and we ended up with the damned silly farce we have these days when a good amount of this infra-structure is now being put back, due to the massive surge in passenger traffic. The result of the work will see a double track line through to the Hope Valley with a new platform between the line the DBC/EWS freight train is on and the one the HST is running along on the right. I guess there wont be a platform face for the main line services, on the right, to stop here, I don't know this but it will be a surprise if local traffic would warrant a stopping service here, though, you never know. Some work NR have already undertaken, a couple of years ago now, is the introduction of a 130 car space 'Park & Ride' over on the left, just beyond the station building, and very convenient indeed and is much to be commended. DBC, EWS liveried class 66, 66122 is on the 6M52, 600 tonne empties from Attercliffe Sidings(EWS) to Peak Forest Cemex Sidings, for a refill. Hurtling south, another classic form of passenger traffic stock, this time in the form of Cross COuntry Trains class 43, HST, 43378 on the 1V56, 9 hour service from Edinburgh to Plymouth. At right, heading directly sun-wards towards Totley Tunnel and the signal box at the Totley West Junction for the lines towards Chesterfield, the wagons take the curve on the section of line which will be doubled and meet the existing double-track section, which may be seen just ahead of the 66 behind Sheffield PSB's S0055 signal, showing green here of course.
