Freight movements & EMU breakdown on the electrified Hertford North line - 4946+50

            Finally further north between Hertford and Stapleford on the GNR line near Bullsmill and the River Beane where Colas class 66, not 60 as thought originally, 66547, passes over one of those bridges which looks like it will last a 1000 years; similarly its small 'friend' at the left taking a water course under to the line and into the River Beane. No information in the timetable as to what type of working this was, but it looks like an Engineers train transporting point-carriers and with ballast wagons in the consist as well. 66547 is on the 6 hour VSTP move, 6xxx, Hoo Junction Up Yard, near Gravesend in Kent to Whitemoor Yard L.D.C(GBRf) in Cambridgeshire and is here running about 8 minutes early. The country alongside the GNR's electrified line speaks for itself and to the south the old GER line wended its way from the west to the south of Hertford North, ran through the station and then turned off to the east to pass through Hertford's other station, Hertford East which continues and joins the main line from Cambridge through to London's Fenchurch Street station. To the north of here the line joins the ECML, East Coast Main Line, at Stevenage and thence onto the north through Doncaster and on to York and beyond. The junction of the two lines at Stevenage has seen much simplification over the years, where the location it would once have offered a grand viewing platform for main line and suburban services and a pageant of 'goods trains' plying there way east to west and north to south. The area around this station at Stevenage has now been filled out with modern industrial buildings similar to elsewhere and its hard to see where one could get a decent view of the passing trains, such as this one, though there is a large space between the main lines and where the up and down lines forming the junction over here to the south-east, is located. Knebworth Park, of live, open-air music venue fame, is located a few miles to the north west of the location the train is about to pass through, so there are somethings which attract other types of visitor to the area... some information about Knebworth House and Gardens-
