This is a shot of the Hollywood Park Racetrack complex, on approach to LAX in July 2007. Note the stables in the middle between the racetrack and the practice track. Also note how the inner track has turned from dark brown to blue in prior photos, and now to a light brown.

At this point in the series, it will help to bear in mind that horse race tracks are very deep and not filled with ordinary dirt. They also require constant grooming, much of which is devoted to making sure the surface is to some degree wet. In arid Los Angeles, this is a constant requirement.
