Leaving Kobe for Himeji - the view of the Route 3 from the JR Sannomiya station

            This time, I was leaving Kobe for Himeji.  I think I took a JR train this time, and it took me about 34 minutes to get there. 

This station really needs some serious renovation.  It is too old and too big now; it has been neglected or almost completely ignored by JR and the city for many decades.  

I think this JR and Hanshin/Hankyu complex terminal station has never upgraded or renovated since the 1995 Great Hanshin Earthquake.  It is really old now especially compared to the rival JR West stations like Osaka or Kyoto, or even compared to Himeji station. They really need a new station here.   It is not a minor train station but a huge one, every day about 20000 or more people use this terminal station.  
There are 3 subway stations underneath this terminal, and 5 big malls directly connected to this building.  So, I kind of understand it is hard to rebuild a big terminal station here without the city government cooperating the train company. 

Kobe city is notorious for breaking the harmony of the major cities in Kansai region of JR West.  When Hanshin and Hankyu tried to persuade the city to cooperate or at least support the idea of the new railway line to the Port Island Town, they rejected that.  Thus, they (the city) did not get the Fourth Subway line that was planned in 1996. 

At least, they deserve a bigger and better station than Hiroshima or Sendai, which are quite much smaller and much less important cities than Kobe.
