Now, I really miss my compact cameras with a one-inch sensor and my small OM-D system.
Unfortunately, it was dark here, really dark indeed, and it was really cold and extremely noisy as the construction people were yelling at each other, and that was quite loud.
My hands were kind of numb, felt almost nothing when I touched the hard stone wall of the University Hall.
I wished I had had a solid tripod here, but it was not allowed here. so, I just shot everything here handheld. I think next time, I will get something like m43, or 1 inch sensor camera here (like the old RX100 Mk7). If you can use a tripod, an FF or MF system is much better, but without a tripod we cannot stop it down much on an FF or a MF, and therefore, we have to sacrifice either DoF or shutter speed or ISO to get the exposure value we need for this sort of scene. And that is really very difficult to get that acceptable or handholdable shutter speed in this sort of scene with a FF system unless we compromise ISO value or DoF. Normally, I compromise on DoF a bit. But here, I did not want to compromise on DoF much, so I just crank up the ISO value to around 800 mark, which I normally never do. If I had a m43, I think I could shoot it here at f4 and ISO100 to get a decent handholdable shutter speed and also deep enough DoF. I obviously compromised DoF to get a decent shutter speed here. All the camera systems are tradeoffs of some sort, and nothing is better than the rest.
Sometimes, the phones are the best, sometimes, the m43 may be the best, sometimes, the One is the best. Sometimes, the MF is the best. Sometimes, the FF or the APS-C is the best.
And now, I think an APS-C or a M43 system may be the best compromise for me (if I have to keep only one camera system in addition to my phones). As most of the places I am interested to shoot do not allow using a solid tripod now.
Now, I am considering smaller sensor system. Maybe they are better for me as I do need deep DoF most of times and also the system size is significantly smaller if I down grade the sensor size. I think I will get some Nike Z or m43 soon with a few primes. There are not many places we can use our big tripod now. Now many people are really paranoid about us who are with a big system camera, most people just cannot understand why some people still need a system camera in addition to a phone camera. I tried to explain it to many of my colleagues, but they just could not understand it or did not want to get it. I think the society is becoming more and more intolerant about cameras especially those huge ones.
I think if I just shoot landscapes or weddings or like that, and most of my shooting things require shallow DoF rather than deep DoF, then I will get a MF or Semi-MF camera like the Fuji or the Hasselblad mirrorless system, but I do not shoot anything require that sort of big sensor system now.
I mostly shot snaps, flowers, shoes and some landscapes.
And at this point, I must admit that my main camera seems to be my phone. I use them a lot, and sometimes they are the only accepted options for me. I wish I kept the RX100 series camera. They are a good travel camera; I think Sony should develop that line more seriously with a higher resolution sensor. Nike was once serious about that sensor format, but they just moved on, and I think it was a huge mistake.
I think the One has a lot of future in it.
