As we commemorate the 80th Anniversary of D-Day in 2024 here is a look back to a display at Smuggers Cottage Tolverne beside the River Fal in Cornwall.

It was here where troops of the 29th Infantry Division embarked on LSTs bound for Omaha Beach in June 1944.

Smugglers Cottage at Tolverne was once a popular destination for tourists when operated as an Inn and Tea Rooms by the Newman Family. The Newmans also owned the pleasure steamer CORNISH BELLE which operated sailings from Tolverne to Falmouth.

Sadly this historic location with connections to the D-Day Landings has been lost along with its collection of nautical bric-abrac and militaria all being auctioned off in 2012

General Eisenhower stayed at Smugglers Cottage during the D-Day preparations.
