D-ABCE Boeing 737-230C Lufthansa MAN 24OCT75

            Replacing an earlier scanned slide with a better version 06-Dec-15 + DeNoise AI 24-Oct-22.  When I re-scanned this slide there was a fungal growth on top of the last two letters of the registration on the rear fuselage.  I had to try and clone the 'B' into a 'C' and an 'E'.

Named: "Landshut".

This aircraft was built with a main-deck cargo door and could be used for either passenger or freight.  It was delivered to Lufthansa in Jan-70 as D-ABCE and operated with them for 15 years until it was sold to CG Air Leasing Inc as N302XV in Sep-85.

It was immediately leased to Presidential Airways.  It was sold to the Aviation Sales Company Inc in Mar-87 while the lease to Presidential continued until it was returned in May-87.  The aircraft was stored until it was leased, short term, to TAN Airlines in Dec-87 returning to Aviation Sales and to storage again in Feb-88.

In Sep-88 it was leased to Intercargo Service (France) as F-GFVJ.  Intercargo was renamed Inter Ciel Service in Apr-90 and renamed again in Nov-90 becoming Aeropostale.  In the meantime, the aircraft had been sold to International Aircraft Services Ltd and was returned to them in Oct-91 and was stored at Shannon, Ireland.

It was sold to Midair Technical Services in Apr-93 and remained in storage at Shannon until it was sold to Industries Aviation Overseas Ltd in Feb-95 and leased to Transmile Air Services (Malaysia) as 9M-PMQ.

Transmile sub-leased it to Garuda Indonesian Airways between March & May-97.  It was returned to Industries Aviation Overseas Ltd in Feb-99 and stored at Kuala Lumpur until it was sold to TAF Linhas Aereas, Brazil, in Aug-02 as PT-MTB.

After 38 years in service, it was finally retired and stored at Fortaleza, Brazil, in Jan-08. The aircraft was bought by the German Government early in 2017.  It was dismantled and the wings and fuselage were flown to Friedrichshafen, Germany where they arrived on 23-Sep-17.  It was rebuilt and displayed at the Dornier Museum at Friedrichshafen in full Lufthansa livery as D-ABCE.

Note: On the 13-Oct-77 this aircraft was hijacked to Mogadishu, Somalia via Rome-Fumicino, Larnaca, Bahrain, Dubai and Aden.  The Captain was murdered by the hi-jackers at Aden and it was eventually flown on to Mogadishu by the First Officer.  A team of GSG 9 commandos was flown in and stormed the hijacked aircraft on 18-Oct-77, killing 3 of the 4 hijackers and rescuing all 91 passengers and the 4 remaining crew.
