Happy Birthday, Erlend Øye! (Kings of Convenience)

This one hurts so much for me. Erlend Øye turned 48 today and this is when he was 35. They hadn't been here since 2010...now, earlier this summer there was an announcement of their tour and I got so excited. The day they finally were coming back after so long, that's when I tested positive for Covid the second time. The first time I had Covid I also missed two major tours-Angel Olsen and Sharon Van Etten and then The Beths with Alvvays and Courtney Barnett. And, we're all still getting it again and again.

One of my friends is very wise and she said to me that she was ok with the great experiences she's had and she'll always remember and treasure seeing Yoko Ono, for example. I am a person who is too greedy for experiences and I am trying really hard to work on that aspect of myself. When I look back at my concert photos through the years, I see moments in time that I didn't realize were documents of humans in their lives moments until much later. At the time, I was just thinking how much I loved the music. I wasn't placing that moment in history.

Now, I have started to think more about how each time I photograph a band at say 29 or 32 about how that's a moment in time that I won't even be able to photograph again. And, then there's also deaths. Like Leonard Cohen, Tom Petty, Mimi Parker, Dallas Good, Mark Linkous. I am rambling now but all of this is to say I missed another key moment in this human's life and who knows when this band will return if they took 13 years to come back.

But, at the same time, I also have these earlier key moments too.

We are all really just a collection of moments bumping into the hallways of our brains.

And, I don't know what I can save me from.
