"F.C.Tingey", The Stainmore Railway, Kirkby Stephen East Station site. 02.10.2021.

            "F.C.Tingey" carries the works no. 2084 and is an OY1, 0-4-0, special class steam locomotive, which was built to a powerful specification by Peckett & Sons, in Bristol in 1948, for the Courtaulds textile manufacturing company to work at their factory in Flint in North Wales.
On withdrawal it was donated by Courtaulds to the Llangollen Railway but little work was carried out on the locomotive and it  was sold for scrap to P. Dobbins (Chester) Ltd, who occupied the old steam shed at Mold Junction. There the locomotive was stripped of all its valuable copper/brass fittings and abandoned.
In 1986 the locomotive was purchased privately and in August of that year it was moved to Steamtown at Carnforth for restoration to working order. The locomotive was dismantled and completely rebuilt. It was named "F.C. Tingey" in honour of Fred Tingey, an ex-Barrow locomotive fireman, who was one of the restoration team but who sadly did not live to see the engine at work. 
The locomotive moved under its own power for the first time in preservation in December 1999 and 24 hours later it left its restoration base at Carnforth for a new home at Kirkby Stephen East (The Stainmore Railway).
