London St Pancras 5th March 1977

London St Pancras station and Peak Class 45 45125 diesel is on a Leicester train beneath William Henry Barlow's fine 1870 trainshed - the largest single span structure in the world when built. A Class 127 4 car diesel-hydraulic multiple unit on a Bedford service is over on the right.

Peak & diesel units disappeared from St Pancras some time ago & the loss of the parcels traffic to road has eliminated the vans seen on the left. However, the station has been refurbished & Eurostar trains from Paris & Brussels glide into the platforms today.

Peak 45125 lived a charmed life and survived into preservation after withdrawal in May 1987 & now resides at the Great Central Railway www.gcrailway.co.uk/ at Loughborough carrying its earlier number D123.

By coincidence ex-Bed-Pan Class 127 units 51616 & 51622 are also preserved on the Great Central and, although I didn't record any details of the dmu in the picture, I'd like to think they were keeping D123 company when I took this 38 years ago!
