Don Palmer RIP Great Central Railway Loughborough Leicestershire 30th January 2011

            This morning I learnt with great sadness that Don Palmer had recently passed away. He was real gentleman and always a pleasure to work with. Here Don poses for the camera on the footplate of Great Western Railway Hall 4-6-0 4953 Pitchford Hall as we waited for the signal on platform 2 with the our only trip of the day, the 15.00 departure to Leicester North. 

Don started on British Railways as a cleaner in 1952 at Nottingham Midland shed and retired as a diesel driver at Toton in 1998. His impressive brown & cream mash can on the hotplate dates from 1959.
