            There was a time I'd get a little static for doing my thing. Photographing women, portraits, a vocal minority found it necessary to comment or DM, tell me to change it up. 

I had fine reasons for not doing so, they hold up, I'd like to think. 

But looking back...the one aspect I undervalued was consistency of style. I've been doing the same thing now for over twenty years. I have a body of work that speaks to my interests, my preoccupations, by preferences. It's a rather fair reflection of who I am and who I have been all these years. 

I stuck to my guns, aesthetically, and they serve me well, even now that I'm not really photographing models anymore. Honing that style, that style of interaction, has led me to a place of comfort and confidence in my skills that allows me to better photograph people now. 

We often judge an artist based on our reaction, as the audience. We could probably do with a bit of patience, realizing that the artist is on their own journey, and we cannot stop or alter that journey based on our preferences, as it's Their preferences that brought them to our notice in the first place.
