I decided to hit the ocean. It's such a centering place, especially during the week when there are fewer people walking the shoreline. It was a windy day and the waves were breaking nicely, often tubing and allowing the light to shine through them. I watched huge waves crashing on the north end of the beach and admired the artistery of the sea foam as it jumped around while moving along the sand whenever the tide came in.

I stayed till a little after sunset. The colors were subtle yet mesmerizing. I shot this long exposure around late twilight. I hadn't shot the sea stacks from this direction before and it took some time positioning myself right to separate them from each other since they were mostly black silhouettes. Though the tide was going out, I found myself overtaken every once in a while but a gentle surge. This photo was taken as one came and went.

Nature is a centering and sublime force that can rinse your worries away. This month has presented my family and I with a lot of worries, and we're getting through it, but all said, I needed to get to the ocean. It is probably one of the best answers to eliminating the stress brought on by the sometimes cruel events that we all experience and go through, and I'll testify that it works… sometimes as a delayed reaction, but it works.

2012 has not been a great year for many of my friends or my own family (or this Nation it seems). We ourselves are taking whatever positive things we can out of it and trying to work through our own problems.

Sometimes the tide is high and sometimes it is low. Life is like water… sometimes turbulent and other times serene. Here's to wishing all of my family and friends happiness and prosperity as we go into the new year.
