An Old Study Revisited 25 Years Later.

This image was part of a series taken whilst on a college course in the early 1990's. The course was film based but I was already working in digital as well. The camera used was a Mamiya C330 TLR Medium Format with Velvia 50 transparency stock. I completed the series working in my darkroom using my rudimentary 3 flash head system and the fantastically good value at that time Jessops Flash meter.
The set-up of the subject and background was basic as required - it was all about technique using difficult and basic equipment and media really. The most advanced object is the shiny laser patterned sheet as the background which I had slightly twisted and gently bent for the distorted and unpredictable effect.
The whole procedure I had previously planned and documented and then the project plan had been evaluated by the tutor. He thought that I was over-reaching and putting too much at risk so that was not too inspiring!
In the event everything went as planned and I then I had to wait for Fujifilm to process and return the transparencies, a wonderful but worrying aspect of working with analogue media. All 12 exposures were fine and I closed the project.

Moving on a quarter of a century I rediscovered my archived project and thought of taking the concept a stage further. Using a Samsung tablet as a lightbox I re-photographed one of the original exposures, the "how" is another story!
