CHURCH OF ST. DISMUCH OF THE GOOD BURGLAR
Zagreb - Nova Ves
Church of St. Dizmuš in Nova Vesa in Zagreb Prebendary Church of St. Dizme, in Zagreb's Kajkavian version of Dizmuš, is located four hundred paces north of the cathedral next to the former north chapter house door. The church was built in 1706, in 1850 the facade and tower were added, and from 2002 to 2010 it was thoroughly renovated with the care and funds of the members of the Prebendaries' Choir of the First Church in Zagreb to the glory of the Triune God, and to the faithful a permanent call to faithfulness to Jesus Christ in the Catholic To the church. Why the church of St. Dizme in Zagreb? According to the old laws, capital punishments could not be carried out in the city of Zagreb, but were carried out outside the city walls. When a serious criminal was sentenced to death by the city judges, and the Chapter House where the trial was held was in front of the cathedral, then from there the criminal would be tied to a cart, driven through the northern Chapter Gate, and there he would be executed outside the walls. In the vicinity of that place of execution, right next to the north door of the chapter house, Zagreb priests built a church so that those condemned to death could confess in that church before their execution. Accordingly, this Zagreb church of St. Dizme is unique in the world in terms of its age and the purpose for which it was built.
Golgotha drama
The church is dedicated to St. Dizma (Dizmus), a man who lived as a robber and was sentenced to death and was crucified with another robber right next to Jesus, Dizma on the right and another called Gizma (or Gesta) on the left of Jesus. That is why Dizma is also called the Right Bandit, and some even the Good. Gizma mocked Jesus: "Aren't you the Christ? Save yourself and us!" and Dizma said to Gizma: "Don't you fear God too, who are under the same sentence? But we in justice, because we receive what we deserve by our deeds, and he - he has not done anything wicked." Then Dizma said: "Jesus, remember me when you come to your kingdom." Jesus answered him: "Truly I tell you : today you will be with me in paradise!" (Lk 23, 39-43) Dizma is the only saint for whom it is written in the Bible that he is in paradise and his holiday is celebrated the day after the Ascension, which means that he was the first after Jesus to enter paradise.
