It's a big wasp, I guess--until someone tells me otherwise! It seems to be either Chlorion or Chalybion, but I think identification would require a closer look. It's not very hairy, and it was quite big, so maybe Chlorion is the better pick....

From BugGuide: "For example, Chlorion aerarium and Chalybion californicum are essentially identical to the unpracticed eye. Behavioral differences help to separate them in the field to some degree, and Chlorion tends to be larger and shinier than Chalybion, but the defining characters are in wing veination and the mandibles. Obviously, you can't get that detail from a live, active specimen you are chasing with a camera:-)"

Very skittish, so I couldn't get close enough for a real macro shot.
