When I was born, the property was owned by the UK Ministry of Defence, for whom my father worked.

Formerly, senior staff accommodation for Bawdsey Manor, which is out of sight, some way back beyond the trees.

The manor was built in 1886, and enlarged in 1895, as the principal residence of Sir William Cuthbert Quilter.

The Manor and extensive grounds were purchased by the Air Ministry in 1936 for £24,000, and became RAF Bawdsey, and it was here that Robert Watson-Watt and his team of Boffins invented Radar, which was to play such a vital part during the Second World War.
