Ancient Themes

I shot the original photo for this image in Aqui's Restaurant in the Willow Glen neighborhood of San Jose, California. In this restaurant they have installed lamp shades made from tooled metal sheets. Each lamp shade is, I presume, a unique work of art. The lamp shade that serves as the basis for this image can be found over the drink dispenser.

The themes in this image appear to be inspired by pictographs found in various areas of the desert Southwest. These themes can also be found in other artwork in the same restaurant.

My one alteration in Photoshop was to greatly increase the contrast of the image. As a result, the dark metal surface is now completely black, and the holes in the metal (where the light shines through) are completely white. The red and green colors are a result of a sheen on the surface of the metal.
