In a change from my regular photostream, the next 17 photos are all from one day : the Ring Ceremony 2010 of the USMA at West Point on August 20, 2010. My late dad was a Class of 1946 West Point graduate. My mom gave his class ring back to the Academy to be melted and the gold to be used in producing the rings for the Class of 2011 and beyond. This is a fairly new tradition and way of continuing the "long gray line." These photos show the Class of 2011 receiving their rings in a very moving and symbolic ceremony. My mom was honored as a ring donor. She told us that giving back Dad's ring was the hardest thing that she has ever done, but the gracious treatment she received at West Point— from the generals to the cadets — gave her peace of mind that she had done what Dad would have wanted. He was always so proud of being a West Pointer!
