            PWM651 rests between duties at Radyr, 25th August 1975. 

Locomotive History
PWM651 is one of a class of five 165hp 0-6-0 locomotives purpose built for departmental duties by Ruston & Hornsby at Lincoln in 1953 (PWM97650) and 1959 (PWM97651-654). There are minor technical differences between PWM97650 and the 1959 batch. Unlike most small shunters of this period it is a diesel electric locomotive. PWM651 departed from Lincoln on July 3rd 1959 bound for Swindon works from where it was engaged on commissioning trials. It was soon to be found at its home for the next 25 years at Radyr CCE Depot. I first saw this locomotive at Radyr on the 11th May 1969. Between 1984 and 1990 the locomotive was found in and around Gloucester before returning to South Wales by 1991/2. The locomotive remained active in Radyr CCE depot until transfer to Cardiff Canton where it was used as shed pilot. In 1977 PWM651 was repainted from Bruwnswick Green into a lighter shade of green with a white roof and standard BR double arrow symbol. Renumbered 97651 in September 1979. Following a classified overhaul at Swindon Works in April 1982, it was again repainted into the now familiar engineer's yellow livery with red double arrow symbols. It never received BR blue livery. It was withdrawn in 1998 and sold for preservation. It is currently (December 2013) resident on the Northampton & Lamport Railway
