08181_1978_04_Toton_A3_600dpi

            Toton Carriage and Wagon Works pilot 08181 shunts a long rake of wagons around the works yard, 28th April 1978. The works closed around twenty years ago, however the buildings survived intill demolished in early 2018.

Locomotive History
08181 was originally 13249 and was built at Derby Works, entering traffic in May 1956 allocated to Derby MPD. It was soon on the move transferring to Cricklewood in January 1957 where it would remain for the next ten years becoming D3249 under the 1957 renumbering scheme. In October 1967 it transferred to Burton and became a Toton engine in February 1970. It transferred back to its original depot Derby in November 1980 from where it was withdrawn in July 1982. It was broken up by Swindon Works in November 1984.
