Unit History
The class 315 electric multiple units were built at York works from 1980 to 1981. They were the fifth and final variety of British Rail's then-standard 1972 design for suburban electric multiple units which eventually encompassed seven hundred and fifty five vehicles formed into five classes (class 313/314/315/507/508). The sixty one class 315 units were built for the inner suburban services on the Great Eastern lines radiating from Liverpool Street and are still operating these services thirty six years later although are about to be replaced by Class 345 units.
