16_Ton_Mineral_1812_Quorn - a photo on Flickriver

            By far the most common wagon to be found on British Railways from the mid 1950’s until the end of the 1970’s was the 16 ton mineral wagon. Over two hundred and thirty five thousand 16 ton mineral wagons were built by British Railways from 1950 to 1958. The Great Central Railway has an operational rake of 16 Tonners which it uses on Gala days to simulate the “Windcutter” coal trains of the 1950/60’s that operated on the Graet Central. When not in use the rake is stabled in the yard at Quorn and can be seen here on the 6th December 2018.
