47512_1979_10_Wembley

            47512 approaches Wembley Complex station on the approaches to Marylebone with a track recording train, 11th October 1979. The leading vehicle is track recording coach DM395223 which was built in 1924 by the London Midland and Scottish Railway as a full kitchen car and was numbered 30005. It was converted to its departmental role in 1956 and withdrawn in the early 1980’s. It is currently preserved at Peak Rail, Rowsley. Wembley Complex station was opened on the 1st March 1906 as Wembley Hill station and is situated between Neasden Junction and Northolt Junction. The station was renamed Wembley Complex on the 8th May 1978 and Wembley Stadium on the 11th May 1987. 47512 was originally D1958 and it was one of the last class 47’s to be built at the Brush Falcon works at Loughborough and was delivered in corporate blue livery. It entered traffic in February 1967, allocated to London Midland Western Lines (LMWL) which was effectively Crewe. The allocation code LMWL was abolished in 1968 and D1959 was “transferred” to the Stoke Division (DO5) which again was effectively Crewe. In April 1973 it transferred to Landore and this was the start of a thirteen year spell as a Western Region engine predominantly allocated to Landore but with the last three years at Old Oak Common. In May 1986 it transferred to Gateshead and a year later in May 1987 it transferred back to Crewe and remained a Crewe engine until withdrawn in October 1991 after a career of twenty four years. It was broken up by CF Booth, Rotherham in May 1994.
