Tony - a photo on Flickriver

Today I enjoyed a quick day at work, although my morning started at 5 a.m. I managed to sneak out just before 2 p.m. I knew that there would be plenty of photo ops of Badger fans on State Street, but I decided that I would hit up the outside of the square for a change. I was rewarded when I found myself across the street from a man who had just stepped out for a break. I crossed the street intently set on one thing, capturing his photo and learning a little more about him (to include him in my 100 more strangers project of course!

I approached and simply explained that he had a very distinct look and I wanted to capture him with a photograph. He smirked and said "why not" so I took a minute to get my gear ready, switching from the 18mm to the 105mm but as fate may have it; my Nikon to Canon adapter was stuck on the 18mm! No worries, as I pulled out my nifty 50mm and adjusted to my preset I've come to enjoy for stranger portraits. I introduced myself as Chris aka the local paparazzi and introduced himself as Tony. We chatted briefly about the restaurants along the sidewalk we were in front of. Tony works at the Come Back Inn and expressed that the adjoining Essen House would be the go to places in the neighborhood. The Wisconsin Badgers Men's basketball team was after all playing Arizona for a spot in the Final Four.

While he knew he had a long night ahead of him, he explained that he had big plans for the beautiful weather foretasted for his day off (Sunday high of 60 and sunny). Mainly just to get out and enjoy a day for himself, I explained that it was in fact my weekend to work and it always seems the weather is crappy when I'm working (so go figure now that it's officially spring the weather turns for the better!) As a lover of good foods and a good beer Tony suggested that I go home and have a cold beer. He and I are alike in the fact we both like dark brews, but he did express that it might be time to change over to light beers. A side note as well, apparently Isthmus had an event going on all day to show how you have fun in Madtown. It's unfortunate, as I could have submitted photos for that if I'd read about it sooner!

All in all my chat with Tony was short, as the night was young. I opted for a black and white shot, as it simplified the finer details in the image. Hopefully Tony was able to enjoy Sunday, and in fact find this photo. I suggest you check out more strangers in the 100 Strangers group. Amazing and inspirational work always to be seen!
