This aircraft was ordered new by Qantas Airways Ltd. It was allocated the Boeing Block Number 'YS073'. Entered onto the Australian Aircraft Register as VH-XZP 18 March 2014. Registered to Qantas Airways Ltd, Sydney. Powered by CFM International CFM56-7B24E engines. This was the 205th Boeing airliner delivered new to Qantas Airways. It was the 78th Boeing 737 delivered new to Qantas. It was also the 75th and final Boeing 737-838 delivered new to Qantas Airways. 

Aircraft was named 'James Strong' in an official naming ceremony at Sydney (Kingsford Smith) 19 November 2014. The iconic James Strong 'bow-tie' was added to the aircraft's forward fuselage at Sydney. This aircraft was painted in the Qantas retro 'ochre' livery to commemorate the 94th anniversary of their iconic "Roo" logo. Operated its first revenue service Brisbane - Melbourne (Tullamarine) as QF611 22 November 2014.
