Smith, Ford & Jones tile backs

Smith, Ford & Jones made pottery as well as tiles, and operated from around 1885 to 1899. Some designs were registered in 1889 with the address being the Cleveland Pottery, the rest registered in 1889 and 1892 from the Lincoln Works (both in Burslem despite their names). The pedigree of the company isn't fully clear; is it possible that Jones was one of the two Jones's at Jones, Hopkinson & Sherwin in Hanley, who also made tiles? Jones left the company in the 1890s and they may have produced tiles marked S&F. After Smith left as well, to form WTH Smith, Ford continued in business at the Cleveland Works, it isn't known whether he made tiles.

The tile backs mostly have two rings (slightly different from the T&R Boote ring backs), and others have bars or ladders, as shown here.
