Even Flow

            I'm finally back home after an awesome trip to the Southern Oregon Coast and the epic California Redwood forests with my good friend Chris Byrne and an enthusiastic group of excellent photographers, and then a trip to Eastern Oregon to attend the marriage of my son Chris and his beautiful bride Jennifer Randall. 

I'm looking at a quick turnaround before I head to Iceland of all places. I never really thought that I'd end up going there but now that I am I'm really looking forward to the photos that I'll be taking while I'm there. 

For some reason, since I turned 66, I have been trying to let the old age thing go and to pay attention to how blessed I am to be able to keep doing what I love. Age is a number is something that you try to convince yourself of when you're getting old. I'm convinced that the way I'll fight age is to keep walking. 

Life is good right now. I'm embracing it all. 

This photo was taken on the last night of our trip to the coast. This is the beautiful Pistol River Beach north of Brookings. We were given beautiful conditions that night. I decided to use my muck boots and stand in the surf and drag my shutter to show the movement of the wave as it curled around this solitary rock.
 
There are several sea stacks to the left side of this frame that get most photographer's attention. I, instead, decided to focus my attention of this single rock. The direction that I was looking while I stood there gave a great view toward the coastline to the north and the clouds that held the last light of the sunset. I didn't want to shoot this at an ultra-wide focal length, which is my style anyhow, which gave it a more solid composition. Each element of the comp was important to the scene and fell into place nicely.
 
This frame was shot at 26mm. The shutter speed was .8 second to allow the wave to move through the scene but still show texture in the water. I used an aperture of f/18 to give a deep depth of field and to stop some light to allow a longer shutter speed. My ISO was at ISO 64 to also allow a longer shutter.
