Schloss [:Grundlsee:} Castle - a photo on Flickriver

            Schloss Grundlsee, vielmehr die Villa Roth, liegt am Nordufer vom Grundlsee am Ortsrand von Gössl. Der Wiener Großindustrielle Jean Roth errichtete von 1879 bis 1883 nach den Plänen seines Bruders und Architekten Franz Roth am Grundlsee eine Villa, welche er als Jagdschloss nutzte. Das Schloss wurde auch von bekannten Persönlichkeiten für Sommer-Urlaube genutzt, so zum Beispiel in der Zwischenkriegszeit vom Schauspieler-Ehepaar Hörbiger/Wessely oder nach dem Anschluss Österreichs an Deutschland vom NS-Propagandaminister Joseph Goebbels. Auch eine blutige Trgödie ist leider mit dem Schloss verbunden. In der Nacht vom 4. auf 5. September 1939 erschoss der Sohn des Besitzers der Villa, der damals 23-jährige Dr. Georg Roth, zuerst seine 22-jährige Braut Trude Kuntner und danach sich selbst. Mangels Abschiedsbriefen kann über die Gründe nur spekuliert werden. Das Schloss ist in Privatbesitz (meines Wissens der Red Bull-Familie Mateschitz) und nicht zugänglich. 

Grundlsee Castle, or rather Villa Roth, is located on the northern shore of Lake Grundlsee on the outskirts of Gössl. From 1879 to 1883, the Viennese industrial magnate Jean Roth built a villa on Lake Grundlsee according to the plans of his brother and architect Franz Roth, which he used as a hunting lodge. The castle was also used by well-known personalities for summer holidays, for example by the actor couple Hörbiger/Wessely in the interwar period or by Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels after the annexation of Austria by Germany. Unfortunately, there is also a bloody tragedy associated with the castle. On the night of 4 to 5 September 1939, the son of the owner of the villa, the then 23-year-old Dr Georg Roth, first shot his 22-year-old bride Trude Kuntner and then himself. In the absence of farewell letters, we can only speculate as to the reasons. The castle is privately owned (to my knowledge by the Red Bull family Mateschitz) and is not accessible.
