            A solitary spirit house on the vast expanse of the Tonle Sap lake looks pitifully small in relation to the vast expanse of the lake.We are actually right on the The Tonle Sap lake near Siem Reap, Cambodia. The Tonle Sap is home to over 300 species of fresh water fish, 20 variety of snakes, 10 variety of turtles, at lease one species of crocodile and various catfish species. The lake expands to over five times its size after the monsoon rains. This is a period soon after the rainy season due to which the lake looks almost like a sea. As for the spirit house you see in the distance, it is an essential feature of any Buddhist home or business. A spirit house is a tiny house like structure fixed outside the establishment, usually at the far end of the premises. It is believed to provide a residence to visiting spirits who will then stay put there and not bother the residents inside the house or business inside.
