Class 319's have been part of the London scene since the late 80's when they were introduced on to the Thameslink services between Bedford and Brighton and Luton and Sutton. Since then they have migrated to other services with Connex South Central and Southern in the Franchaise era and finally moved on and away from London to end their days in the North West of England. However they are now about to be withdrawn having given nearly 40 years of service. Only  the Class 769 seem likely to continue.
An early re-incarnation of the class was the Class 319/2 which Connex South Central converted from some 319/0 and refurbished for use on the Victoria-Brighton service by giving the interior a more low density outer suburban feel and even a space for a catering trolley (which did not last long). 
319219 heads a pair through Clapham Junction not long after introduction in April 1997.
