0603 Praha Svandovo (11)

            Svandovo Theatre, Prague (aka Švanda Theatre in Smíchov or Švandovo divadlo na Smíchově).  It was established on the site in 1871, but was demolished in 1891, the subsequent rebuilding forms the basis of the current theatre. Being in the suburbs of the city has often been challenging and the history of the Švandovo divadlo has been one of change. In 1900 a radically rebuilding changed the position of the stage and auditorium, and this layout has been largely preserved. In 1908, it was renamed the Intimate Theatre, then in 1928 the Vlasta Burian, but in 1932 it returned as the Švanda Theatre. After the war, authorities banned its traditional theatrical business but in 1991 with the fall of communism it was renamed the Theatre Labyrinth which closed in 1998 re-opening in 2002 as the Švanda Theatre in Smíchov.  It has two auditoria, a traditional stalls and balcony, known as the Large Hall with an adaptable studio.
