Conwy Castle - a photo on Flickriver

Conwy Castle

            Conwy is one of 4 castles in North Wales to have been named as World Heritage Sites, the others being Beaumaris, Caernarfon and Harlech. I found that all of these castles were rather impacted by their modern surroundings. It was therefore difficult to appreciate Conwy Castle from the town but I managed to take this stitched panorama from a grassy hill opposite. Even here, the rail bridge, completed by Robert Stephenson in 1848 dominates the scene and behind that, the suspension bridge built by Thomas Telford. The latter is used only for pedestrians since a third, and rather unattractive road bridge was opened in 1958. On the whole, I found Conwy to be a rather appealling town
