Yellow Mimosa – Acacia dealbata - a photo on Flickriver

            The Mimosa is an evergreen tree with ferny leaves and masses of fragrant yellow flowers, it likes the sun and well drained soil.  The flowers form in the autumn but do not bloom until the spring.  Most Mimosa can grow between 15 and 20 feet tall but the eventual shape of a mature tree is quite squat and wide with the shape changing as the years go by.   These trees do not usually live longer than 30 to 40 years, and in moist mountain areas it can have lichen growing over which almost covers the bark and may contribute to it being described as covered in white powder.
