King Tides: Nightcliff Jetty, Nightcliff, Darwin

King tides, cyclones and monsoonal rain have all come together to form part of the first few days of February 2014. Extremely high tides of 8.1 m were seen on Sunday night 2 of February however the wind had died down and was not pushing the sea to the same extent as the night before. Waves had crashed onto walkways depositing sand and debris on the Nightcliff foreshore on the previous night. Tonight the waves were still crashing in but were not causing any damage. 
A large group of spectators had gathered and a generous proportion of these were photographers out to document the event. The iconic Nightcliff jetty had been closed to the public due to the danger of waves breaking over the jetty. This was perfect for the photographs wishing to capture the high tides and the jetty.
