L’église Saint-Quentin- des-Prés

Très souvent envahi par les crues du Cher, le bourg s’est développé plus au nord, laissant l’église isolée des habitations. A l’origine simple chapelle de halte sur le cheminde Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle, l’église Saint-Quentin-des-Prés constitue un très bel exemple de l’art roman du XIIe s, de conception simple et harmonieuse. La nef, composée d’un unique vaisseau, est précédée d’un porche en charpente et le clocher octogonal est éclairé par d’étroites baies. A l’est, l’abside semi-circulaire, voûtée en cul-de-four, est éclairée par trois baies en plein cintre. Côté chevet, ces baies sont encadrées de colonnes à chapiteaux ouvragés ; les petits modillons qui supportent la corniche sont sculptés de motifs variés. En 1885, on restaure l’édifice et construit la sacristie. L’église est inscrite Monument Historique dès 1907 avant d’être classée en 1943. Elle abrite une pietà en pierre polychrome du XVe s., classée Monument Historique depuis 1907.


The Church of Saint Quentin des Prés
Originally a simple chapel along the way to Saint Jacques of Compostelle, this church is a good example of the Roman style of the 12th century. The town of La Croix has developed on the North side of the church to avoid floodings. It has been a listed monument since 1943.

Le village aurait été fondé, lors de la colonisation romaine, par un certain Quintinus. Le village prit alors le nom de "Quintini".

Au fil des temps, le village devint Sanctus-Quintini-de-Prato (Saint-Quentin-des-Prés), puis Sain-Quintinus-anté-Blérium (Saint-Quentin-avant-Bléré). le village portera le nom de Saint-Quentin-près-Bléré jusque vers 1250. Le nom de Crux-de-Bleireio apparaît au XIIIème siècle, puis et La Croez-de-Bléré.

L'église gardera le nom de Saint-Quentin-des-Prés.
