Past:Forward conference 2019

            Past:Forward was an international conference about commemoration and remembrance, and marked the start of the celebration of 75 years of freedom in Brabant.

This particular year is considered as a turning point: the established ways of commemorating and celebrating were weighed, but possible new approaches were discussed to build new future forms of commemoration after 2019. The provincial Commemoration of Brabant’s Fallen in Waalre will be treated as a case study.

Together the relationship within a broader European context was investigated. Hereby taking in consideration commemorating and remembering in relation to other conflicts and genocides besides the Second World War. Past:Forward brought together an international, intercultural and intergenerational crowd. The conference was prepared and carried out in close cooperation with a team of Dutch young professionals.
