We just returned from a couple of weeks along the gulf coast of Texas. Our trip home was delayed couple of days due to the disastrous ice storm that hit a large area of the state. Driving through Austin after storm, the roads were cleared but everything else was encased in ice. Widespread power outages were reported, and thousands of residents still don't have power.

Our trip was all about birds and I took a few thousand photos, some of which I'll be posting over the next few days. We had several very good days for birding, but even though we didn't have ice on the coast, the last couple of days there were cold, dreary, windy, misty, foggy and just plain miserable. Bird photo ops during those days were few and far between.

So we found a spot with some fascinating sand patterns, and I took a few shots from the warmth and comfort of the car. This one is my favorite.
