America day BeerSheva No.267

            During Ambassador Shapiro’s full day visit to Beersheva, he visits Ben Gurion University where President Professor Rivka Carmi and key professional staff familiarized him with the Homeland Security Technologies Institute, and the Ilan Ramon Youth Space Center.   In honor of his visit, BGU together with the Student Union and the US Embassy, hosted their first-ever “America Day,” where American flags, red white and blue decorations, and popcorn attracted scores of students to the many booths promoting American Embassy programs and materials.  U.S. State Department cultural Ambassadors Rennie Harris Puremovement dance troupe gave spectacular hip-hop dance performances to spillover crowds.    Ambassador Shapiro capped his BGU visit by speaking and answering questions in English and fluent Hebrew at an Ambassador’s Forum to students and faculty.  Ambassador Shapiro had a stimulating discussion with Mayor Rubik Danilovich at Beersheva Municipality on his strategic development plan, and security and quality of life concerns related to the barrage of terrorist missiles, recalling the U.S. key role in minimizing physical harm due to its financing of a large portion of the Iron Dome.
