Mallard business

            After finishing work just after noon yesterday, I took off to experiment further with the features of the new E-M1X.  I had tried the autofocus tracking with trains and the firmware update I installed shortly after unboxing the new camera body included adding birds to the subject tracking list.  Though I was out shooting a number of old homesteads that I had spotted while out in the truck, I couldn't resist stopping at this little pond to shoot a number of ducks.  The tracking works exceptionally well, even if the old 40-150mm lens (80-300mm equivalent) is more than a little soft beyond about 70mm.  I was happy to test it out, though, for even the standard autofocus (adjustable with either of the joysticks) works exceptionally well.  The tracking only adds another layer of assurance that the subject will be in focus so one can worry about more important factors.  I see a huge difference in consistency and can't wait to try it with new pro glass.  This is cropped tremendously (as far as I cared to push it, at least) and it is certainly better to fill the frame when dealing with what is already a small sensor.  I've not tried this with the "digital teleconverter" but might play with it just to see how the camera does the processing (for all practical purposes, it would be not much different than me cropping the raw file in Photoshop, though).
