517 on the move - a photo on Flickriver

517 on the move

            Finally Monday afternoon there was a CN train ready to put up some miles. It wasn't the one I'd been waiting for but the time was right. A morning of trouble had bedeviled L517 and the crew was relieved mid-day once it reached CF Yard at last. 

As far a consolation prizes go this one was pretty good. On a typical day 517 usually goes west out of CF Yard between 4-6am. Even when things bog down I don't find out until it's too late, living on the west end of the subdivision. With 517 leaving in the afternoon I had a list of westbound-afternoon shots that had long waited for this chance.

After crawling up the hill through Howard 517 is getting back up to speed at Albertville. When I've chased this part of the line it has been eastbounds in the morning, with a westbound it was a whole new experience, still downhill fast, uphill slow but in different spots. January 21, 2013.
