With the white horse at Alton Barnes visible on the distant hillside, 59002 Alan J. Day is seen approaching the site of Patney and Chirton station with the 7C77 12:41 Acton Yard to Merehead Quarry train of empty aggregate wagons. Fortunately this was running ahead of schedule as the large bank of cloud that had been encroaching from the west put the lights out shortly afterwards. This remote location was formerly the junction for the line to Holt Junction via Devizes. The station footbridge still survives as it carries a public footpath. 22/10/19.
