Oscar (from the series Portraits from Cuba)

In an mountainous 120 km trip from Bayamo to the southern coast, we had just crossed the Sierra Maestra National park, as the night fell (and I fell off my bike, for the road was steep and stony). Thus, it became difficult for us to look for a casa particular. Oscar saved our day (or, well, our night) by offering us a bed in his little home. We learned a lot of him about how one's life can get messed up in general and especially in Cuba. But somehow, there is a way to go on...
