Hakuba mountains & Karamatsudake

Yokoteyama is the southernmost part of Shiga Kogen Ski Resort, which is a group of 19 ski geländes spread over undulating volcanic terrains. Ski geländes were originally developed independently but are now interconnected with each other by developing a network of lifts. 

Hakuba Valley developed on the slopes of Kita Alps as you see in the photo is the major rival of Siga Kogen in ski tourism.

Development of Shiga Kogen was lead by the Seibu Group, while that of Hakuba was by the Tokyuu Group. The two were major tourism development corporations based in Tokyo in the late 20th century. It was the principal reason for Nagano Winter Olympic in 1998 having two venues for ski competitions (^_^;

Frustrated IOC demanded that the travel between the two venues should be within an hour, for which a new road was constructed across the mountainous northern Nagano prefecture. The road hugely benefitted isolated mountain villages, anyway.
Excuse me for adding a worldly description to such a pristine image.
